SRI Sponsors USO Marine of the Year Family

SRI sponsored the attendance for the family of Sgt. Justin Clough to the annual USO Gala in Washington, DC and has the privilege of seeing their son bestowed with the honor of USO Marine of the Year for 2007.

The United Service Organizations named Sgt. Justin Clough of Pawcatuck, CT, as its 2007 Marine of the Year. The 22-year-old Clough led his squad on more than 100 patrols. Between missions he continued to train his men, pushing them to better communicate with air support, conduct medical evacuations and apply new infantry tactics. This training ended up saving Clough’s life when he was shot December 26th 2006. His men were so well-trained, they were quickly able to radio for emergency assistance and prepare to evacuate him.

SRI came into contact with Sgt. Clough as a result of our support to the DoD Injured Advocates Program. As a Severely Injured Soldier, Sgt Clough was supported by SRI employee and Counselor-Advocate L. Mack Wade at Camp LeJeune, NC. The Injured Advocate Program provides Counselor-Advocates at several military medical centers and hospitals around the country to make sure injured service members and their families have questions answered, are aware of sources of assistance from both military, veterans, private and public resources, and can navigate to the most beneficial resources for the situations each service member and family may need.
